Top 10 Magic Storybooks for Children

I love that my job as a children’s magician in Houston, allows me to help educate children as to the joys of reading. I have an “I Love to Read” educational show that I present in schools, youth programs and libraries that encourage children to pick up a book and enjoy the simple pleasures of reading.

In this article, I would love to share some of my favorite magic storybooks for children to help inspire you and them to get reading. All of them should be available on Amazon.com or any good local book store.

Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling

No list of magic storybooks would be complete without the inclusion of the Harry Potter books. I think the fact that Harry is so relatable to most children who read the stories, helps to make this the continued success.

The Magic Faraway Tree Series by Enid Blyton

Set in an enchanted forest with wonderful characters such as Moonface, Saucepan Man and Silky the Fairy, these tales cannot fail to spark children’s imaginations and get them exploring their yards for signs of an enchanted forest

Arabian Nights

This collection of tales which can include “Aladdin’s Wonderful Lamp”, “Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves”, and “The Seven Voyages of Sinbad the Sailor”, combine adventure, mystery and exotic locations that will enchant any reader, young and old alike.

Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson

This modern classic, written by the author of The Gruffalo, it is a funny, rhyming tale of a witch and her many animal companions. Beautiful illustrations make this a visual and verbal delight.

Magic Tree House Series by Mary Pope Osborne

The Magic Tree House books feature brother and sister Jack and Annie. They discover a magical tree house in the woods which has the power to transport them through time, and that is where the adventures begin.

Peter Pan by J M Barrie

A true classic, about a boy who never grew up, takes us on an adventure to Neverland, with pirates, mermaids, fairies and more.

The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

This iconic story teaches children that all the magic we need can be found inside ourselves. A beautiful and colourful tale that takes us Over the Rainbow to meet some exciting mythical creatures with gripping twists and turns.

Mary Poppins by P L Travers

Who wouldn’t want a nanny like Mary Poppins? This magic fairy tale sees Jane and Michael banks jumping through chalk paintings, flying up chimneys and sliding up bannisters.

The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C S Lewis

Transport yourself and your children into the winter wonderland of Narnia and help them learn lessons of trust and how things are not always what they seem.
